Success Story

My name is Haji. Muhammad Mushtaq and Currently, I am living in Sahiwal. I am doing farming since the early 90s, and my agriculture farm is situated in a village named Choti Dhapai. It is located in the Tehsil and District of Pakpattan.

Farming is my full-time profession, and I am entirely depended upon it for my earing. Mainly Potato, Rice, and Maize are major crops of my area, and I am following the same pattern at my agri. farm. In the start of this potato sowing season, Mr. Waqar approached me while I am working on my farm. Firstly, he gave me his comprehensive introduction and told me that he is the focal person and Training Expert of potato in my area.

Afterward, he gave me a brief overview of the Established of Model Farms Project (EMFP). He also shared some success stories of the EMFP’s previous working in the Mango and Orange regions.

Furthermore, he also told me about the project goals about enhancing the exports of our agriculture products, he emphasized on that the Punjab Government is now very much interested in boosting up the country’s current exports. He shared the working method of the EMFP project with me and told me about how the training will be conducted on one of the selected Dera. He chose my Dera for the training and registered my name.  

While comprehensive learning about each phase of potato crop from sowing to harvesting in each different module like sowing, weed control, irrigation management, etc., the most useful modules for me were related to Soil Preparation and Irrigation Management’. Because before attending these training I never tested my soil or water as I am not aware of the benefits of testing them. Our Trainer not only emphasized on the importance of the soil and water testing as well as motivated us to do it. Also, he also told us about the effect’s low-quality water with a high ph. value. He told me to read the label of the medicine and consider the recommendation given on it. It is quite shocking for me that they recommend mixing the water with Ph. value ranges in between 6-7 while spraying. Otherwise, the effect of that medicine will be affected.

Then I realized that why my pesticide sprays are not giving me the recommended results. Next day, I took my water and soil sample to the laboratory for testing and used recommended and balanced dose of fertilizer according to that test results. I hope that this project will work in our area in next season also and educate more farmers like me to solve our problems.
